The children of the village always gathered around our troops.  Here are several at the front gate of the village.  SSG Ransier is at the right of the picture.  The children didn't look too bad off.  However, the poor kids were filthy.  But, they did make good friends with the GIs, and they sometimes helped save lives by telling where the VC or booby traps were located.

Joe Morganti (Amarillo, Texas), a medic from Alpha Company, is treating a wound on this child.  The children seemed to love being treated by the GI medics.  They often pulled off old scabs so they could get their wounds treated again!

In the center of the village, the farmers dried their crops on large circular trays made of bamboo.  In the foreground are three trays of small peanuts, and in the center are two trays of corn drying.  In the back, you can see rice straw being dried, which the villagers used to make their thatched homes.

This farmer was drying his corn in the tray in the center.  In the foreground are the corncobs, which were only about 3 to 4 inches long.  Papasahn is reaching into his pocket to get out a picture of his son, who was an ARVN soldier killed by the NVA near Da Nang.

In mid-May, 1971 and about six weeks after FSB Mary Ann was overrun, Nui Tron Village and OP-1 were also overrun and destroyed.  This view is a night-time shot of how it looked from FSB 4-11 as the village and the outpost went up in flames.
